Upload a Swedish EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in English. Swedish writes as one word what English writes as three, and the same joined-up word has to come apart the same way every time.
The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.
Swedish compounds freely, and a compound is not a phrase with the spaces removed — it is a single word whose meaning is often narrower than its parts suggest. English has to unpack it, and there is usually more than one defensible unpacking. Over a novel, unpacking the same compound three different ways turns one recurring idea into three, and the reader stops noticing it was ever a thread.
Swedish also puts its definite article on the end of the noun, which means a word can look unfamiliar simply because it is definite. Reading that as a different word is the classic mistake of a system matching strings instead of reading language.
Reading the whole book first is what fixes the vocabulary: recurring compounds, names and terms go into a guide before a word is translated, and the sample is written against it.
A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.
Recurring compounds and terms are collected first, so each gets one English equivalent and keeps it.
About 4,500 words as a complete EPUB you can download or read here.
Compounds become phrases. What was one Swedish word becomes three English ones, so the English runs longer and slightly more explicit than the original.
Understatement is easy to overtranslate. Swedish prose often says less than it means. An English rendering that fills the gap in is unfaithful in a way that is hard to see, and the register set from the whole book is what holds it back.
Fifteen pages, not the book. About 4,500 words.
The text is sent to a server and discarded when the job finishes.
Yes, and it is the main reason the model reads the entire book before translating anything. Recurring compounds go into a guide, so a concept named once keeps that name across the whole sample rather than being re-invented on each appearance.
No. The definite form is read as the same noun rather than as a new word — which is exactly the error you get from anything matching word forms instead of reading the language.
Regional colouring and older spelling conventions are read as text and understood. What is not attempted is imitating an archaic Swedish with an archaic English; the register follows the book but the English is modern.
About 4,500 words, roughly fifteen pages, five books a day.

The app translates the entire book and can show the English beside the Swedish, so a compound that needed three English words is still one word in the original.
