Each French paragraph with its Italian translation directly beneath it, in one EPUB. Two languages close enough to read at speed, and close enough to get quietly wrong.
The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.
French and Italian share so much that comprehension is rarely the issue. What you gain from a parallel text is correction: the cognate whose meaning drifted, the preposition that does not match, the verb that looks identical and governs a different construction. None of those declare themselves, and without a second version in view there is no occasion on which you would find out.
There is also a pleasure specific to this pair. Both literatures use a past tense reserved for books, and seeing one answered by the other makes the shared inheritance visible in a way reading either alone does not.
Your browser opens the EPUB, walks each paragraph and inserts the Italian beneath it inside the original file, rewriting only the chapter documents that received a translation.
A DRM-free EPUB. The bilingual file is assembled in your browser, not on a server.
Names, terms and the formal/familiar map are fixed once, so the Italian keeps its footing across chapters.
Each translation is styled beneath its paragraph, distinguishable at a glance even though the two languages look alike.
A complete EPUB carrying the book's own fonts and stylesheets.
Skimming defeats the purpose. Read the French, decide what it says, then check — with a pair this close the value is entirely in the checking.
Fifteen pages get translations. The rest of the book stays in French inside the same file.
The text is sent to a server and discarded when the job ends. The file never leaves your device.
French first, and check rather than glance. The languages are close enough that a half-right reading feels exactly like a right one.
Yes, and arguably more so. When you are rarely stuck, what you need is not translation but correction — the false friends and divergent constructions you would otherwise keep getting slightly wrong indefinitely.
Yes. The browser rebuilds the archive entry by entry and only rewrites the chapter files that received a translation, so cover, navigation and metadata pass through untouched.
