MOBI → READ
Open an old Kindle file in your browser — real pages, the book's own table of contents, your own type size. No Kindle and no app required.
Drop your MOBI
or click to choose — the only ceiling is your own memory, none on our side
A .mobi file opens on a Kindle, in Calibre, and almost nowhere else. If someone sent you one, or you found one in a folder from ten years ago, you normally have to install something before you can find out whether it is worth reading.
This opens it in the tab you already have. The Palm database is unpacked in your browser, repackaged as EPUB in memory, and handed to the same reading engine DualBook's own app uses — so you get proper pagination rather than a scrolling wall of text, the book's real table of contents, and its images and styling as the publisher wrote them.
Nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored. Close the tab and the file is gone from the page along with it. That also means no reading position is remembered, which is the honest trade for not asking you to sign in.
Format by format
| What it does | MOBI | READ |
|---|---|---|
| Installation | A Kindle app or Calibre | Nothing — it is a web page |
| Your file | Copied into a library or a device | Never leaves the browser |
| Pagination | Yes | Yes — the same engine the DualBook app uses |
| Table of contents | Yes | Yes, from the book's own navigation |
| Reading position | Remembered | Forgotten when the tab closes |
| DRM files | Only in the store's own app | Cannot be opened at all |
What actually changes
There is no separate MOBI reader here. The file is converted to EPUB in memory and opened with the same engine every other book on this site uses, which is why it behaves identically and why the only real limit is DRM.

What does not
How it works
Combo files carrying both MOBI and KF8 are detected and the newer part is used.
Each text record is decompressed and rebuilt as EPUB in memory — nothing is written to disk.
Turn pages with the arrows or the arrow keys; the MOBI to EPUB tool will hand you the file itself.
FAQ
No. This runs entirely in your browser and has no connection to Amazon at all. It works on any DRM-free .mobi file, whoever made it.
Books bought from the Kindle store are locked to your account and cannot be opened here. Removing DRM is not something we support. Files from Project Gutenberg, Standard Ebooks, indie publishers and your own writing all open normally.
It is the same reading engine — epub.js, the same version — so pagination, navigation and type sizing behave the same way. The app adds the things that need an account: sync, bookmarks, highlights and translation.
No. Nothing is stored on our side or in your browser. That is deliberate, and it makes this a reader for checking a file or reading a chapter rather than for working through a novel over a fortnight.
Yes — use the MOBI to EPUB tool and you get the converted file to download. This page does the same conversion but opens the result instead of handing it to you.
Both usually work. Many .azw files are MOBI inside, and .prc is the same container under another extension. If yours turns out to be KF8, the AZW3 reader is the more direct door.
DualBook translates a whole book and gives you the original alongside it, in the reader you are using now.
