Upload a Vietnamese EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in Chinese. The information Vietnamese puts into its pronouns has nowhere to go in Chinese, and deciding what to do about that is most of the work.
The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.
When a Vietnamese character says em rather than tôi, they have told you their age relative to the person they are addressing, in the act of saying "I". Chinese has 我 and stops there. Rendered literally, an entire layer of the book's social texture disappears — and unlike the reverse direction, Chinese offers no grammatical slot to put it back into.
What it does offer is address terms and forms of reference: what characters call each other, whether a title is used, how a sentence is phrased. Used consistently, those carry a good deal of it. Used inconsistently, they carry nothing.
So the model reads the entire book first and maps the cast and their relationships before translating, then applies one policy across the whole sample rather than improvising per scene.
A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.
The cast and their relationships are mapped once, so the Chinese carries them in address terms consistently rather than by accident.
About 4,500 words as a complete EPUB. Chinese characters render in every modern reader.
Pronoun information narrows. Vietnamese states the age relationship every time someone says "I"; Chinese cannot. Address terms carry some of it, and some of it is lost.
Names are given Sino-Vietnamese readings where they have them, and transliterated where they do not — consistently, either way.
Fifteen pages, not the book. About 4,500 words.
The text is sent to a server and discarded when the job finishes.
They become address terms, titles and phrasing rather than pronouns, because Chinese has no pronoun that carries age. What the tool guarantees is that the policy is the same on page one and page fifteen, which is what keeps the relationships legible.
Simplified, unless the book's own register clearly points the other way. Whichever is chosen, it does not change partway through the sample.
With their Sino-Vietnamese character forms where the name has them, which is how Vietnamese names are conventionally written in Chinese, and by transliteration where it does not. The same name is written the same way throughout.
About 4,500 words, roughly fifteen pages, five books a day.
