Translate a Portuguese book into Spanish

Upload a Portuguese EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in Spanish. The two languages are close enough that the hard part is resisting the words that look like they already match.

The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.

Portuguese and Spanish share so much that a translation can be produced by changing endings — and the result will read fluently while misfiring on the vocabulary the two languages disagree about. Esquisito means strange in Portuguese and its Spanish lookalike means exquisite. Borracha is an eraser in Portuguese and something else entirely in Spanish. There are enough of these to spoil a chapter and few enough to be missed.

There is also a structural difference to handle. Portuguese marks dialogue with a dash and lets the narrator continue on the same line; Spanish has its own conventions, and working out where the speech ends is a genuine reading problem rather than a formatting one.

Reading the whole book first sets the register, the names and the recurring terms once, so the sample is Spanish prose rather than Portuguese with Spanish endings.

How it works

  1. Choose your Portuguese EPUB

A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.

  2. The model reads the whole book

The register, the variety of Spanish and the names are settled once, from the complete text.

  3. The first 15 pages come back in Spanish

About 4,500 words as a complete EPUB, with dialogue set the way a Spanish edition would set it.

Honest limits

Cognates are the entire risk. The overlap is enormous and the disagreements are invisible to anyone reading only the output.

No Spanish variety picker. The sample commits to one and stays there.

Fifteen pages, not the book. About 4,500 words.

The text is sent to a server and discarded when the job finishes.

Questions

How are false friends handled?

By reading the sentence rather than the word. This is the one failure mode in this pair that produces completely natural-sounding output, so it is worth spot-checking a few in the sample.

Does it convert dash-marked dialogue?

Yes, and it is a real translation problem rather than a formatting one: Portuguese lets a narrator's words continue on the same line as the speech, so the boundary has to be worked out before the Spanish punctuation can be placed.

Which Spanish do I get?

Whichever the book's register points to, fixed from the whole book before translating starts so it does not drift between chapters.

How much is free?

About 4,500 words, roughly fifteen pages, five books a day.

Translate the whole book

The app runs the same engine across the entire book and can show the Spanish next to the Portuguese, with your position synced between devices.
