Translating Indonesian into a European language means deciding a tense for every verb that the Indonesian never stated. Chinese asks no such thing — it establishes time with words and context, exactly as Indonesian does — so this direction avoids the most common source of quiet error in machine translation.
What Chinese does need is a decision about address. Indonesian often uses a name or a kinship term where English would say "you", and it distinguishes an inclusive "we" from an exclusive one. Rendering all of that with Chinese pronouns flattens it; carrying it in forms of address preserves some, but only if the policy is the same on page fifteen as on page one.
