Translate a Chinese book into Indonesian

Upload a Chinese EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in Indonesian. Two languages that agree about something most pairs fight over: neither marks tense on the verb.

The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.

Chinese and Indonesian are both analytic. Verbs do not conjugate, nouns do not decline, and when something happened is established by a time word or by context rather than by the shape of the verb. That agreement removes the single largest source of error in most translations — the constant obligation to commit to a tense the source never stated.

What has to be handled instead is the pronoun system. Indonesian distinguishes a "we" that includes the listener from one that does not, and it frequently avoids pronouns altogether in favour of a name or a kinship term. Chinese does neither, so those choices have to be made from the scene.

Reading the whole book first is what makes them consistent: the cast, the relationships, the names and the recurring terms are settled before any translating begins.

How it works

  1. Choose your Chinese EPUB

A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.

  2. The model reads the whole book

The cast and their relationships are mapped once, which fixes the pronouns and the forms of address.

  3. The first 15 pages come back in Indonesian

About 4,500 words, translated as continuous prose — and neither language needs tense forced onto it.

  4. Download, or read it here

A complete EPUB with the book's own styling. Indonesian uses the Latin alphabet, so it renders anywhere.

Honest limits

Inclusion is inferred. Chinese "we" does not say whether the listener is included; the guide makes the choice consistent across the sample.

Standard Indonesian, not Jakarta slang. The sample is written in the register books use.

Chinese names are transliterated, with the same spelling on every appearance.

Fifteen pages, not the book — about 4,500 words — and the text is sent to a server and discarded when the job ends.

Questions

Does the lack of tense in both languages help?

Yes, and more than you might expect. Most translation pairs force the target language to state a time the source left open; here both languages leave it to context, so the sentences transfer without that layer of guesswork.

How does it choose between kita and kami?

From the cast and the scene, mapped across the whole book. Chinese makes no such distinction, so it is one of the decisions that genuinely cannot be made from a paragraph in isolation.

How are Chinese names written?

Transliterated, following the conventions used in Indonesian, with the same spelling throughout — which is one of the things the guide fixes before translating starts.

How much is free?

About 4,500 words, roughly fifteen pages, five books a day per person.
