Upload a French EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in Spanish. The vous carries straight over into usted — what has to be decided is which Spanish the book is going to be in.
The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.
French offers this direction something English cannot: the formality is already marked. A translator does not have to reconstruct who addresses whom formally, because the source says so in every verb. That removes the single largest source of drift in translations into Spanish.
What replaces it is the variety question. Peninsular and Latin American Spanish disagree about vosotros, about everyday nouns and about how narration sounds, and one book has to pick a side and stay on it. Nothing in the French points to an answer, so the decision has to be made from the book's setting and register — once, before any translating begins.
The other steady work is sentence length. Literary French nests clauses more deeply than Spanish comfortably does, so a translation is constantly choosing whether to preserve or split. Made inconsistently, the voice lurches.
A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.
The variety, the register and the names are settled once, from the complete text.
About 4,500 words as a complete EPUB, with French guillemets converted to the conventions the Spanish edition would use.
There is no variety picker. The free tool will not let you demand Peninsular or Rioplatense Spanish. It does guarantee that the sample does not switch between them.
Cognates are the risk. The two languages share an enormous vocabulary and disagree about a small, dangerous part of it.
Fifteen pages, not the book. About 4,500 words.
The text is sent to a server and discarded when the job finishes.
Yes. Both languages mark formality in the pronoun, so the relationship stated in the French transfers directly rather than having to be inferred — which is the main advantage of this pair over translating from English.
Whichever the book's setting and register point to; there is no picker. What is guaranteed is consistency: the variety, the vocabulary and the narrative voice are settled from the whole book before any translating starts.
They are preserved where Spanish will carry them and split where it will not — and the important part is that the decision is made once, as part of the register, rather than freshly in every paragraph.
About 4,500 words, roughly fifteen pages, five books a day.
