Translate an English book into Indonesian

Upload an English EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in Indonesian. Indonesian has two words for "we", and choosing between them requires knowing whether the person being spoken to is included.

The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.

Kita includes the listener. Kami excludes them. English "we" does neither, so every line of dialogue containing it is a question the original does not answer — and answering it wrongly says something specific and false about who is on whose side. In a novel about a group, that is not a grammatical slip; it is a plot detail.

The address system asks a second question. Kamu, Anda, and the various ways of using a name or a kinship term instead of a pronoun all place two people in relation to each other, and Indonesian conversation frequently avoids pronouns altogether in favour of a title. English "you" contains none of this.

Both need the cast, which is why the model reads the whole book before translating anything: the people, their relationships, the names and the recurring terms go into a guide, and the sample is written against it.

How it works

  1. Choose your English EPUB

A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.

  2. The model reads the whole book

The cast and their relationships are mapped once, which is what fixes kita/kami and the forms of address.

  3. The first 15 pages come back in Indonesian

About 4,500 words, translated as continuous prose so tense-free Indonesian still reads in the right time frame.

  4. Download, or read it here

A complete EPUB with the book's own styling. Indonesian uses the Latin alphabet, so it renders anywhere.

What this free tool does not do

Inclusion is inferred. English "we" does not say whether the listener is included. The guide makes the inference consistent across the sample; in an ambiguous scene it can still be wrong.

Standard Indonesian, not Jakarta slang. The sample is written in the standard register books use, not in colloquial speech.

Fifteen pages, not the book — about 4,500 words — and the text is sent to a server and discarded when the job ends.

Questions

How does it choose between kita and kami?

From the cast and the scene, mapped across the whole book before anything is translated. It is one of the clearest cases where a paragraph in isolation is genuinely insufficient: nothing in an English "we" says who is standing there.

How is the form of address decided?

From the relationships in the book, and it often means using a name or a kinship term rather than a pronoun at all — which is how Indonesian conversation actually works, and one of the details that separates natural Indonesian from translated English.

Indonesian has no tenses — does the time frame survive?

Yes. Indonesian marks time with adverbs and context rather than on the verb, so the English tenses become time words where they are needed and are simply absorbed where the context already carries them.

How much is free?

About 4,500 words, roughly fifteen pages, five books a day per person.
