Make a Chinese-Korean bilingual book

Each Chinese paragraph with its Korean translation directly beneath it, in one EPUB. Read the Chinese first; the Korean is there when a sentence stops resolving.

The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.

A Korean reader learning Chinese has a hidden head start: a large share of the vocabulary is already familiar, because Korean borrowed it from the same source. 학생 and 學生 are the same word. But Korean stopped writing Han characters, so the connection is inaudible until someone points it out — and a parallel text points it out on every page.

That is the specific value here. You are not only reading a translation; you are watching a systematic sound correspondence emerge between Chinese characters and the Sino-Korean syllables you already know. Once it clicks, vocabulary arrives in groups instead of one word at a time.

Your browser opens the EPUB, walks each paragraph and inserts the Korean beneath it inside the original file, rewriting only the chapter documents that received a translation.

How it works

  1. Choose a Chinese EPUB

A DRM-free EPUB. The bilingual file is assembled in your browser, not on a server.

  2. The model reads the whole book

The cast and their relationships are mapped once, so the Korean speech levels stay steady from chapter to chapter.

  3. Korean is inserted under each paragraph

Each translation is styled beneath its paragraph — and Hangul beside Han characters is unmistakable at a glance.

  4. Read it here, or on your phone

A complete EPUB carrying the book's own fonts and stylesheets, so CJK text displays as the book intended.

The trap, and the honest limits

Your eye will go to the Korean. Read the Chinese paragraph first, every time. The seconds of not understanding are the practice.

Fifteen pages get translations. The rest of the book stays in Chinese inside the same file.

The text is sent to a server and discarded when the job ends. The file never leaves your device.

Stacked, not side-by-side. Facing columns cannot hold alignment in a format that reflows to the reader's screen.

Questions

Which side should I read first?

Chinese first, every paragraph. Give yourself the few seconds of working it out before you look down.

Why is this pair good for parallel reading?

Because the Sino-Korean vocabulary you already know maps onto Chinese characters by a regular sound correspondence — one that modern Korean spelling hides. Seeing the two stacked makes the pattern visible, and after that vocabulary comes in blocks.

Does it work with traditional characters?

Yes, both simplified and traditional. The script does not change how the text is read or how the file is rebuilt.

Will it open on a Kindle?

Yes. Kindle has accepted EPUB directly since 2022 and renders both Chinese and Hangul; email the file to your device or copy it across.
