Translate a Korean book into Japanese

Upload a Korean EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in Japanese. The grammar transfers almost directly; what does not transfer automatically is which script each word should be written in.

The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.

Korean is written in one alphabet. Japanese is written in three systems at once, and choosing between them is a matter of convention rather than rule: the same word can be set in kanji or hiragana depending on the register, the publisher and the era. A Korean word gives no hint which to use, so every noun and verb stem is a small decision — and made inconsistently, the result reads as amateur typesetting even when the language is correct.

The grammar, by contrast, is the easiest transfer in this catalogue. Both languages put the verb last, mark roles with particles and grade politeness in the verb ending, so the structure of a sentence usually survives intact.

The model reads the whole book first and fixes the script conventions along with the names, the terms and the speech-level mapping, so the sample is consistent from the first page to the last.

How it works

  1. Choose your Korean EPUB

A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.

  2. The model reads the whole book

Names, terms and the kanji/kana conventions are fixed once, so the same word is written the same way throughout.

  3. The first 15 pages come back in Japanese

About 4,500 words as a complete EPUB. Japanese script renders in every modern reader.

Honest limits

No furigana is added. Ruby has to be authored, not generated, and guessing readings for Korean names written in kanji would be wrong more often than right.

The politeness grades are near neighbours, not twins. Both languages mark it in the verb; the levels do not correspond one to one, so the mapping is a decision held for the whole book.

Fifteen pages, not the book — about 4,500 words — and the text is sent to a server and discarded when the job ends.

Questions

How are Korean names written in Japanese?

Transliterated into katakana, which is the current convention for Korean names in Japanese text, and spelled identically on every appearance — which is one of the things the guide fixes before translating starts.

Does the grammar really transfer directly?

Structurally, more than in any other pair here: verb-final order, particles marking roles, politeness in the verb ending. What does not transfer for free is idiom and preferred construction, which is where a careless translation gives itself away.

Is the kanji/hiragana choice consistent?

Yes, and it is worth checking in the sample. Japanese allows the same word in kanji or kana, and a text that alternates between them without reason reads as carelessly set even when every sentence is correct.

How much is free?

About 4,500 words, roughly fifteen pages, five books a day.

The app runs the same engine across the entire book and can show the Japanese next to the Korean, with your position synced between devices.
