Translate an English book into Spanish

Upload an English EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in Spanish. Two decisions have to be made before the first sentence is written — who addresses whom as usted, and which Spanish — and both are made from the whole book rather than from the paragraph in front of the model.

The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.

English "you" carries no information. Spanish demands it: every verb you write commits to tú or usted, so translating a line of dialogue means first deciding how close these two people are. A translator working paragraph by paragraph re-decides that every few pages, and the result is a character who is formal with their sister in chapter two and familiar with their employer in chapter four.

There is a second decision underneath it. Peninsular and Latin American Spanish disagree about vosotros, about everyday nouns, and about how narration sounds. One book has to pick a side and stay there.

Reading the whole book first is what makes both decisions hold. Names, recurring terms, register and the relationships between characters are settled once, and every page after that is translated against that settlement.

How it works

  1. Choose your English EPUB

A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.

  2. The model reads the whole book

Not a sample of it — the whole thing, so the guide it writes knows who the characters are before it meets them.

  3. The first 15 pages come back in Spanish

About 4,500 words, translated as continuous prose rather than sentence by sentence, so the rhythm survives.

  4. Download, or read it here

A complete EPUB with the book's own styling. Spanish accents and ñ render everywhere.

What this free tool does not do

There is no variety picker. The free tool will not let you demand Peninsular or Rioplatense. What it guarantees is that it does not switch varieties halfway through the sample, because terminology and register are fixed before the first page is translated.

Fifteen pages, not the book. About 4,500 words.

Spanish runs longer than English — commonly 20% or more — so the translated sample covers fewer pages of text than the English it came from. That is the language, not the tool.

The text is sent to a server and discarded when the job finishes.

Questions

Which Spanish do I get?

Whichever the book's setting and register point to — there is no picker in the free tool. What the tool does promise is consistency: the variety, the vocabulary and the narrative voice are settled from the whole book before any translating begins, so they do not drift between chapters.

How does it decide between tú and usted?

From the relationships in the book, mapped once and then held. That is the whole reason the model reads the entire text first: a paragraph in isolation does not tell you whether these two people are close, and guessing afresh each time is how translations end up socially incoherent.

Does the file keep its formatting?

Yes. The EPUB is rebuilt entry by entry and only the chapter documents that received translated text are rewritten, so the cover, the table of contents, the stylesheet and the metadata come through untouched.

How much can I translate for free?

About 4,500 words — roughly fifteen pages. It is counted in words rather than chapters, so a book with long chapters gets the same allowance as one with short ones. Five books a day.

Translate the whole book

The app runs the same engine across the entire book and can show the Spanish next to the English, with your position synced between devices.
