Translate an English book into Polish

Upload an English EPUB and get the first fifteen pages back in Polish. Polish does not address people in the second person when it is being formal — it talks about them in the third, and English gives no signal for when to start.

The first 15 pages of text are sent to our server to be translated. The file itself stays on your device.

"Would you like to sit down?" said formally in Polish becomes something closer to "would the gentleman like to sit down?", with the verb in the third person. That is not a flourish; it is the grammar of politeness, and it changes the shape of the sentence rather than one word in it. A translator that renders every English "you" as the familiar form produces dialogue in which strangers are instantly intimate.

Names are the other constant work. Polish takes seven cases, and borrowed names decline too — so a name appears in several different forms depending on its job in the sentence, and leaving it fixed in one form marks the text as machine output immediately.

Both need the book, not the paragraph. The model reads the whole text first and writes a guide of the cast, the relationships, the names and the recurring terms.

How it works

  1. Choose your English EPUB

A DRM-free EPUB. The file stays on your device; only the text of the sample is sent.

  2. The model reads the whole book

The cast and their relationships are mapped once, which fixes the formal/familiar footing for the whole sample.

  3. The first 15 pages come back in Polish

About 4,500 words, translated as whole sentences so names and adjectives take the case the grammar requires.

  4. Download, or read it here

A complete EPUB. Polish diacritics are ordinary Unicode text and render everywhere.

What this free tool does not do

Formality is inferred. English marked none of it. The guide makes the choice consistent across the sample; it cannot make it authoritative.

Fifteen pages, not the book. About 4,500 words, counted in words.

Name declension follows the sentence, not a list. That is what makes it come out right, and also why an unusual foreign name can occasionally take an awkward form.

The text is sent to a server and discarded when the job finishes.

Questions

Are names declined properly?

Yes, and it is the first thing worth checking in the sample. Names are translated inside whole sentences rather than substituted from a glossary, which is what allows them to take the case the grammar requires instead of sitting in the nominative everywhere.

How does it handle formal address?

With the third-person construction Polish actually uses, rather than the familiar pronoun. Which characters get it is decided from the relationships mapped across the whole book, and held — so two people do not become intimate for one chapter and formal again in the next.

Are Polish diacritics preserved?

Yes. ą, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź, ż and ć are ordinary Unicode characters and pass through as text; there is no transliteration to bare Latin letters.

How much is free?

About 4,500 words, roughly fifteen pages, five books a day per person.
